It's true.
When Therese and I were alone this last weekend, we had catastrophes. As in 5.
#1- Therese goes out to my car at 11 pm on Thursday to get something out of my trunk. She got into the front of my car to use the little beeper thing on the key to open the trunk, but in the dark car, she couldn't see the buttons. First, she hit the alarm, then the button to lock the doors, and then finally, she found the trunk button. She gets out of the car, shuts the locked door and gets the thing out of the trunk. Good that she found what we needed....bad that my keys are now locked in the car and the second set is nowhere to be found.
#2- Friday went fairly smoothly until mid-afternoon we had a HUGE storm that knocked the power out for 3.5 hours, 60 mph winds and a huge bolt of lightening that struck our mulberry tree.
#3- Now this was the big one- we were working away on the bathroom Friday night during another huge storm trying to get it finished before Mom and Dad came home on Saturday. At 2 am, I was too tired to be productive, so I went to the couch and went to sleep. Therese stayed up and a little bit before 6, was nailing one of the last pieces of woodwork back on when the loudest, most explosive sound ran through our house and we completely lost power. Both of us knew right away that the house was struck by lightening. We felt jolted- if it is possible to get shocked when you're in that situation, we definitely did. I know this is hard to imagine, but Therese and I totally panicked, especially since our neighbor's house got struck by lightening a few months ago and burned out, and we heard the story of someone's house practically exploding after getting hit. We decided we should get out of the house- NOW- but weren't sure if you should go out a metal door, so we decided to crawl out our bedroom window. The driveway was flooded, so we couldn't drive a car. It was still storming, and I definitely did not want to be struck by lightening, so we sprinted- fast- over to Grandma's house. After the fact, they were laughing because they said they looked out their window and saw us tearing across the road barefoot in our pjs. Only good thing about this situation- I totally beat Therese at running, which means, since she beat Max in their last race, that I am the fastest out of the three of us. Max tells me that's illogical, but it makes sense to me. =)
#4- When we decided it was safe to go back to our house, we went down to the basement, and it was completely flooded. It's a walk-out basement, and we have our school room down there with hundreds of books, the boys' bedroom is in the basement, and so is our family room. Yay for another remodel job. And yes, Ali, I do need those rubber boots from Belk.
#5- Okay, this one definitely was our stupidest one of the weekend. We went to a movie with friends on Saturday afternoon, and we had to drive the van (we felt pretty un-cool) since Therese locked my keys in the car and because getting the van cleaned and the oil changed was on the list of things Mom wanted us to do over the weekend. So we go watch the movie, come back out and the van is completely dead. Therese left the lights on!!
So, yeah, I don't think we should be left alone, maybe for another 20 years.
